Mordvichev, who was also the deputy head of the Russian military’s Southern Military District, died after being shot in his car as he drove through the city. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Mordvichev had been in charge of “terrorist groups” operating in the area. Earlier today, Ukrainian forces killed a senior Russian general in the city of Kherson. General Andrey Mordvichev was shot five times as he left a meeting with local officials. The Ukrainian military has not released a statement about the general’s death. But Russian media reports that Mordvichev was head of the Russian military’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU).

Andrey Viktorovich Mordvichev was born November 23, 1955, in the village of Skyukha in the Vinnytsia area. He was a graduate of the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute, which is also his alma mater. He never served in Afghanistan as per some reports (even Wiki says so) but has extensive combat experience.
